Manage EU and UK VAT details in WooCommerce
EU/UK VAT Validation Manager for WooCommerce Pro is designed for stores serving both business and consumer clients across the UK and EU. It adds tools for collecting VAT numbers, checking them through VIES services, and applying checkout rules based on the information provided.
The Pro edition includes the core VAT collection and validation capabilities described for the plugin, together with additional controls for payment methods, countries, visitor roles, company details, and local VAT numbers. These settings help store owners structure a checkout flow for various customer situations.
Collect and validate VAT numbers
Add an EU VAT field to the WooCommerce checkout page and, when needed, to the signup form. VAT numbers entered during signup are automatically saved in customer data fields. At checkout, the number can be validated in real time using VIES services.
Validation can use a SOAP web service, with fallback methods including cURL and Simple. You can also personalize progress messages shown while the number is being checked, helping customers understand what is happening during the validation process.
Configure VAT treatment
The add-on lets you choose whether VAT is removed for valid VAT numbers or kept, according to the tax rules and selling scenarios you configure. Pro options can also control whether the VAT field appears for particular countries. For example, you can hide the field for sales within the store’s base country when VAT is always charged there.
- Show or hide the VAT field by country.
- Show the field for selected user roles.
- Allow checkout for local VAT numbers that cannot be validated because they are not part of VIES.
- Check whether the customer’s country, located by IP, matches the country used in the VAT number.
- Check whether the company name matches the VAT number.
Use VAT validation in the checkout process
Pro can show a specific payment method only when a valid VAT number has been provided. This is useful when business customers should see a particular gateway, such as cheque payment, only after their VAT details have passed validation.
When company name matching is enabled, the plugin can show a custom message if the company name does not match the VAT number. These controls give stores more ways to communicate and apply their own checkout requirements.
Compatibility and invoice data
The plugin works with the block-based WooCommerce Checkout page. It can also add the VAT number to PDF invoices when used with the PDF Invoice & Packing Slips plugin, or with another plugin that manually uses the field ID _billing_eu_vat_number.
Installation and setup
Install the Pro plugin on your WooCommerce store, then configure the VAT field, validation, country, role, payment-method, and VAT-treatment settings for your checkout process. Test the form and validation messages with the customer cases relevant to your store before using the workflow with customers.
