Keep WordPress code in separate snippets
Code Snippets offers a dashboard for creating and managing custom code. The base add-on supports PHP snippets and reusable HTML content. Code Snippets Pro includes CSS and JavaScript snippet types, with integrations for Gutenberg and Elementor.
Snippets are stored separately from theme documents, so switching themes or updating WordPress does not remove them. Code that depends on a particular theme or plugin may still need changes when that dependency changes. PHP snippets can run everywhere, in administration only, or on the front end; manually confirmed run-once snippets are available for one-time tasks.
Pro editing and execution utilities
The Pro AI Agent takes a description of the functionality you need, presents a plan to review and refine, then waits for approval before generating code. Review generated snippets before activating them. Pro also includes snippet revisions for comparing and restoring earlier code, a visual editor for setting where and when snippets run, and role-based permissions for viewing, creating, editing, and deleting snippets.
Form-based Blueprints generate PHP for common tasks such as custom post types, taxonomies, shortcodes, settings pages, and extra visitor profile fields. The admin bar can display which snippets ran or produced output on the current request. Optional execution-time tracking and advisory checks flag some potentially risky code patterns; these checks are not a security audit and do not certify code as safe.
Local snippets and Cloud processes
Local PHP and HTML snippets do not require a Cloud account. You can also browse Community Cloud from inside WordPress, search shared snippets, preview their code, and download types supported by your edition.
A connected Code Snippets Cloud account and the relevant Pro access are required for a personal Cloud library, synchronisation, and deployment to connected websites. Drift reporting helps identify differences between site snippets and their Cloud copies. The free plugin includes interactive demos of selected Pro workflows; using the full tools requires Pro access.
Organize, move, and recover your work
Names, descriptions, tags, search, filters, sorting, and bulk actions help manage a snippet collection. Browse in table or card view, preview code without opening the editor, lock important snippets to help prevent accidental changes, and use Stats to review totals and breakdowns by type, run location, and tags. Multisite support lets you manage network-wide snippets and snippets for individual websites.
Export one or more snippets to move them to another site, then import the export file through the Snippets interface. PHP snippets can also be exported as a PHP file with their names and descriptions in comments, for use without the plugin. Review exported code before including it in a theme or plugin.
If a snippet causes an error, Safe Mode can prevent snippet execution while you investigate and deactivate or fix the affected code. PHP snippets execute code on your site, so review code you trust before activation and keep a current backup. To remove stored snippets and plugin settings when deleting the plugin, enable Complete Uninstall in the advanced settings first. Export any snippets you want to keep.
