Open videos in a responsive lightbox
WP Video Popup PRO connects a video shortcode to a page element that opens the video in a responsive lightbox. Add the shortcode to a page, post, custom post type or template file, then assign the wp-video-popup CSS class to the link, button or other element users activate.
The shortcode workflow supports YouTube, Vimeo and Rumble video URLs. PRO also supports self-hosted videos.
Options for pages with several videos
PRO supports multiple popups on one page and video galleries. You can also start playback automatically when a popup opens, adjust its size and customize the overlay background color.
- Open various videos from multiple page components.
- Group videos in a gallery or use self-hosted video.
- Set popup size and overlay background color.
- Start playback automatically when a popup opens.
Shortcode and playback controls
Use [wp-video-popup video="VIDEO_URL"], replacing VIDEO_URL with the video address. Add the wp-video-popup CSS class to the element that should open the lightbox.
Use mute="1" to mute playback, start="24" to start at a particular time in seconds, or portrait="1" for Vimeo portrait mode. A YouTube related-video option is documented, but hiding related videos is no longer possible; videos from the same channel may appear instead.
Autoplay is included in the embed URL by default. Playback begins after the visitor activates the trigger when browser policy enables it. Some browsers require muted playback, in which case add mute="1" to the shortcode.
Loading and setup
Video connections are made only after a visitor triggers the lightbox. The listing describes the add-on as GDPR compliant. The lightbox adapts to different screen sizes.
- Install WP Video Popup PRO in WordPress.
- Add a video shortcode to a page, post, custom post type or template file.
- Enter the video URL and any shortcode attributes you need.
- Add the
wp-video-popupCSS class to the element that should trigger the popup. - For more involved layouts, configure multiple popups, galleries, popup size, autoplay, self-hosted videos or overlay color.
The add-on has no admin options page; setup uses the shortcode and trigger element.
