What a shared shortcode changes
The snippet is saved once under its shortcode name. Updating that saved content changes what appears wherever the shortcode is used, so repeated blocks can be maintained from one place. The shortcode only renders in locations that support WordPress shortcodes, including the specific block or area used in a page builder.
Create and place a shortcode
In the Shortcoder administration area, create a shortcode, give it a name, add its content, and save it. Then insert it into a post or page, for example: [sc name="my_shortcode"].
A custom parameter can make part of a saved snippet vary by placement. Add a placeholder such as %%id%% to the snippet, then pass a value when using it, as in [sc name="youtube" id="GrlRADfvjII"]. The shortcode can then use that value without requiring a separate copy of the full snippet.
In the block editor, the Shortcoder block and toolbar button let you choose and insert created shortcodes inline.
Pro editing and management utilities
- Custom editor: Edit shortcode content with the block editor or page builder plugins such as Elementor and WPBakery.
- WPML translation: Translate shortcode content for multilingual workflows.
- Revisions: Keep revisions of shortcode content.
- Locate shortcode: Search posts and pages to find where a particular shortcode is used.
- Extra footer code: Include additional code in the footer when a shortcode is used on a page.
These tools fit sites that reuse promotional blocks, embedded code, styled sections, or scripts. Usage search helps locate placements before shared content changes, while revisions and WPML support content management across edits and translations.
