Protect code while editing

Raw HTML Pro helps preserve custom HTML, JavaScript, and CSS in WordPress posts and pages. Wrap a section in [raw]...[/raw] tags to keep WordPress from converting newlines into paragraphs or straight quotation marks into typographic quotes. Protected content is also kept from formatting changes such as picture smilies and character conversion.

In Visual mode, the Pro version shows code inside raw tags as a read-only placeholder. The original code returns when you switch to Text/HTML mode and when the post is displayed to readers. A second tag format works in the same way; it is not visible to visitors if Raw HTML is deactivated.

Choose which formatting filters to disable

Checkboxes on the Edit Post screen let you disable selected WordPress filters for an individual post. Options include wptexturize, which creates smart quotes and other typographic characters; automatic paragraph creation; image smilies; and convert_chars, which converts ampersands to HTML entities and adjusts some Unicode characters.

Check permissions and content behavior

Some Raw HTML features require the unfiltered_html capability. In a standard WordPress installation, Editors and Administrators have this capability. In Multisite, it is available by default only to the Super Admin.

Shortcodes inside raw blocks appear as plain text by default. To execute them, add shortcodes=1 to the tag, as in [raw shortcodes=1]. Raw blocks are removed from automatically generated excerpts by default. To keep them in excerpts, add the RAW_HTML_KEEP_RAW_IN_EXCERPTS definition to wp-config.php.

Account for editor limits

Raw HTML does not fully support Gutenberg. Since WordPress 5.0, some features work only with the Classic Editor add-on. For posts containing custom code, the documented process is to edit in Text/HTML mode; use the Pro version when Visual editing is also needed.

Add it to a post or page

Add Raw HTML Pro to WordPress and open a post or page in an available editor. Place code that should be protected inside raw tags, select any per-post filter settings you need, and save. When you use Visual editing, the Pro version shows protected code as read-only placeholders.
