Custom Payment Gateways for WooCommerce Pro: Gateway Rules

Flexible payment settings for WooCommerce

Custom Payment Gateways for WooCommerce Pro helps store owners create and manage manual or offline payment gateways without code. It is useful when a preferred payment provider does not offer a WooCommerce gateway, or when a store needs to support payment methods such as bank transfers, local wallets, and in-person payments.

By adding alternative payment methods at checkout, you can give clients more ways to complete an order. The add-on also works with the modern block-based WooCommerce Checkout experience, allowing custom gateways to integrate with WooCommerce Checkout Blocks.

Configure each gateway for your workflow

Each custom gateway can be presented with its own payment information and checkout behavior. Configure the gateway title, description, and icon so customers can recognize the option clearly. Add instructions for the checkout and order emails to explain the next steps for completing a manual or offline payment.

You can also define a custom return URL for the thank-you page and choose the default order status used after checkout. Additional emails can be triggered when needed, helping your team keep payment-related communication connected to the order workflow.

Collect details and manage charges

Pro lets you add multiple input fields beneath the payment gateway options on the WooCommerce Checkout page. Use these fields to collect the information required to process a selected payment method.

The edition also supports multiple fees or discounts. This gives you a way to adjust the order total according to the payment method and the rules of your store. You can create unlimited custom payment gateways and unlimited checkout input fields, making the setup suitable for stores with several manual payment processes.

Control when gateways appear

Custom gateways can be enabled for selected shipping methods, helping you show a payment option only when it fits the chosen delivery arrangement. The add-on supports virtual and downloadable products as well, so the gateway setup can be used for stores selling products that do not require physical shipping.

With Pro, set a minimum WooCommerce order amount below which a custom gateway will not appear. You can also define a maximum order amount above which the gateway must not be available at checkout. These controls help you align payment availability with practical order rules.

Practical use cases

  • Create gateways for bank transfers, local wallets, or in-person payments.
  • Collect reference numbers, payment notes, or other required checkout details.
  • Apply a payment-specific fee or discount.
  • Use various instructions and return URLs for different payment methods.
  • Limit a gateway by shipping method or order value.

Installation and setup

Add the Pro edition to your WooCommerce store, then create a custom gateway and configure its title, description, icon, instructions, availability rules, fields, fees or discounts, order status, and return URL. Review the checkout show and adjust the settings for each payment workflow you want to offer.
