After a WordPress theme change or an adjustment to picture sizes, existing thumbnails may need to be recreated for the current layout. reGenerate Thumbnails Advanced Pro lets you set the regeneration scope and adds tools for command-line processing, media cleanup, and ShortPixel optimization.
Set the regeneration scope
- Limit regeneration to featured pictures when appropriate.
- Add any number of thumbnail sizes to the list and select which sizes to regenerate.
- Select the preferred image quality.
- Choose an interval: the last day, last week, last month, all images, or a custom interval.
Track and resume processing
A progress bar shows the percentage of images processed, and completion statistics report the total number of thumbnails regenerated. If you pause the process or the browser tab closes unexpectedly, use Resume to continue from where it stopped.
Pro tools for larger libraries and cleanup
- Regenerate thumbnails with WP-CLI, useful for very large image libraries or when wp-admin resources are limited.
- Automatically remove outdated thumbnails that are no longer used.
- Choose whether to delete metadata for missing images and thumbnails.
- Remove images and thumbnails from the media library when they no longer exist on disk, along with their associated metadata.
Start image optimization after regeneration
If you use ShortPixel Image Optimizer, the Pro option can start image optimization automatically when thumbnail regeneration finishes.
Start a execute
Install the add-on in WordPress and open its Settings section. Choose the image scope, thumbnail sizes, image quality, and interval, then start the process and follow its progress. Review the completion statistics and use cleanup or ShortPixel settings when they fit the task.
