Random Content Pro is a standalone WordPress add-on for rotating content across posts, pages, sidebars, and widget areas. Create entries with the WordPress editor, organize them into groups, and display a random eligible selection. Entries can contain text, images, HTML, shortcodes, and embeds.
Use separate groups for testimonials, promotions, calls to action, tips, quotes, or FAQs. Built-in caching and PHP randomization support content rotation without requiring you to edit page content for each change.
Set schedules and user rules
Set start and end dates for individual entries to control when they enter or leave rotation. Visitor targeting can use visitor role, login status, UTM parameters, referrer, or page type. Group display rules can limit content to logged-in users, specific roles, or specific page types.
- Assign each item a weight from 1 to 10. Higher-weight entries appear more often.
- Prevent the same item from appearing twice in a row and set cooldown periods between displays.
- Choose fallback content for situations where filtering leaves no eligible items.
Place rotating content
Use the [random_content] shortcode in posts, pages, or widget areas. Add a group_id to choose from a particular group, or use num_posts to display multiple items. Content renders server-side by default. On websites using full-page caching or a CDN, add ajax="yes" to load the selection after the page loads.
You can also add the Random Content widget under Appearance → Widgets, select a group, and set how many posts to display. Leave the group empty to draw from all entries.
Set up a rotation
- Create entries under the Random Content post type.
- Create groups under Random Content → Groups and assign entries to them.
- Add the shortcode to a post, page, or widget area, or place the Random Content widget.
- Configure schedules, visitor targeting, frequency controls, weights, display rules, and fallback content as needed.
Random Content Pro is standalone and does not require the free version. Automatic updates deliver features and fixes through the WordPress dashboard.
