PublishPress Capabilities Pro: WordPress Roles and Access
PublishPress Capabilities Pro lets WordPress administrators edit, make, or duplicate roles and assign capabilities without writing code. Set permissions for publishing, reading, editing, and deleting across posts, pages, custom post types, categories, tags, and other taxonomies. Media Library files and WooCommerce products, orders, and coupons can also have tailored permissions.

Roles and capabilities for team responsibilities
PublishPress Capabilities Pro lets WordPress administrators edit, make, or duplicate roles and assign capabilities without writing code. Set permissions for publishing, reading, editing, and deleting across posts, pages, custom post types, categories, tags, and other taxonomies. Media Library files and WooCommerce products, orders, and coupons can also have tailored permissions.
This role-based setup helps content teams give authors and editors the access their work requires. Custom post types and taxonomies can receive distinct capabilities whether they come from code, a theme, or a add-on. On multisite networks, permission changes can be applied to one website or synchronized across the network.
Admin access and a focused editing screen
The Pro Admin Menus screen lets you edit menu links and restrict top-level or submenu access by role. You can also conceal metaboxes for selected roles and block admin pages by URL. These controls can limit access to shop management screens or add-on options that particular team members do not need.
Additional settings can remove toolbar items, dashboard widgets, and Profile screen capabilities. Editor Features can hide block editor or Classic Editor panels, the Publish button, title, body, or permalink for selected users. Other utilities let you restrict navigation menus by role or login status, set login, logout, registration, and first-login redirects, add role-specific frontend CSS, customize admin styling by role, and organize admin notices.
Permission changes with recovery settings
Each permissions change is backed up automatically, so you can restore an earlier configuration if a change has an unwanted result. Manual backups and user testing are also available; user testing lets you check an account without resetting its password. These tools are useful while adjusting a role, reviewing access after adding a plugin, or preparing changes for a multisite network.
Capabilities focuses on role-level capabilities and screen access. Rules that depend on an individual post's status, category, tag, or parent page require more granular permission controls.
Set up a role and review its access
- Install and activate PublishPress Capabilities Pro on your WordPress website.
- Open Capabilities and select the role to manage. Create or copy a role if needed.
- Assign the required capabilities and administration controls.
- To restrict menu access, open Admin Menus and mark the links the selected role should not access.
- Review the resulting permissions with the backup and user-testing tools before applying the same approach across a multisite network.
