PageSpeed Ninja Pro for WordPress Caching and Performance
PageSpeed Ninja Pro offers WordPress performance controls for caching, compression, code delivery, and image handling. Page caching works alongside browser and server-side caching options. Gzip and Brotli compress text resources, while HTML, CSS, and JavaScript minification reduces file size. You can also bundle or inline CSS and JavaScript to reduce requests.
Caching and asset delivery
PageSpeed Ninja Pro offers WordPress performance controls for caching, compression, code delivery, and image handling. Page caching works alongside browser and server-side caching options. Gzip and Brotli compress text resources, while HTML, CSS, and JavaScript minification reduces file size. You can also bundle or inline CSS and JavaScript to reduce requests.
For rendering, the plugin can generate critical CSS for above-the-fold content, inline it, and defer non-essential CSS. JavaScript options include deferring or asynchronously loading scripts, delaying selected scripts, and loading detected polyfills only in legacy browsers. Preconnect, DNS prefetch, and preload utilities help prepare connections and requests for resources needed early.
Pro adds multithreaded background optimization and command-line asset optimization. It also includes backup and restore tools and options to self-host and optimize external resources such as Google Analytics.
Images, fonts, and page layout
Image settings let you adjust JPEG, WebP, and AVIF quality, convert existing pictures to WebP, and optimize AVIF images. Lazy loading can delay offscreen images, videos, and iframes. Gradient or blurred low-quality placeholders can appear while full images load. The add-on can add image width and height attributes so browsers reserve space and reduce layout shifts.
Font controls optimize Google Fonts loading and use swap behavior to keep text visible while web fonts load. Pro can conceal extra DOM components and reveal them after visitor interaction. Other options address emoji loading and embedded legacy plugins such as Flash, ActiveX, and Silverlight.
Choose settings for your website
Presets offer different starting points: Optimal suits most websites, Safe enables a minimal set of optimizations for compatibility, Compact disables image optimization and WebP conversion to save disk space, Ultra aims for maximum optimization and may conflict with some themes or extensions, and Experimental is for testing less stable features. Settings are grouped around PageSpeed Insights categories, with advanced controls available for further adjustment.
Optimization settings are disabled by default. Start with a preset, then enable settings gradually and test important pages after changes to caching, minification, JavaScript timing, image delivery, or critical CSS. Theme and plugin combinations, especially those involving other caching or optimization tools, can cause conflicts. The plugin listing also notes that PageSpeed Ninja has not been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases, so check compatibility with your setup.
Installation and setup
