Turn WordPress headings into page navigation

Easy Table of Contents Pro builds a navigable table of contents from headings in posts, pages, custom post types, and custom taxonomy descriptions. Choose which heading levels to include and whether to nest lower-priority headings beneath higher-priority ones. Custom post types are supported when their content is displayed with the the_content() template tag.

The add-on works with the Classic Editor, Gutenberg, Divi, Elementor, WPBakery Page Builder, and Visual Composer. Enable tables of contents for selected post types and select whether to insert them automatically. For manual placement, use the [ez-toc] shortcode.

Set the outline and its display

Settings control placement, appearance, heading selection, and user navigation. Built-in themes provide preset styles, and color settings let you set the border, background, and link colors.

  • Choose no counters, decimal, numeric, or Roman counters.
  • Show headings as a flat list or nest them by heading level.
  • Let users hide the table of contents, with an option to start it hidden.
  • Enable smooth scrolling or omit anchor links from the URL.
  • Exclude headings globally or for individual posts.
  • Preserve line breaks in the table of contents.
  • Set display based on a dynamic paragraph count.

Place and follow navigation with Pro utilities

A Gutenberg block and an Elementor widget let you add a table of contents in their respective editors without coding or a shortcode. For long pages, Fixed/Sticky TOC keeps navigation visible while visitors scroll. Sticky heading highlighting identifies the section in view, and its color can be configured.

Pro also includes AMP support, the option to build a table of contents from custom ACF fields, and View More controls. Set how many headings appear initially, then let visitors reveal the remaining entries. Readers can collapse or expand subheadings, and posts and pages can display estimated read time.

Choose where each table appears

When the table should sit outside the post content, place the supplied widget in a theme sidebar. The widget can stay affixed while visitors scroll and can highlight visible sections with a configurable color. Affixed positioning may require a theme-specific entry selector.

Settings can enable or disable the table of contents for individual posts, with per-post heading selection and exclusions. A migration tool can import options from other plugins, including Table of Content Plus. The add-on supports Rank Math, includes SiteNavigation Schema, and provides action hooks and filters for developer customization.
