Ultimate Cursor Pro: WordPress Cursors and Background Effects

Ultimate Cursor includes custom cursors and animated backgrounds to WordPress. Its free add-on includes Text, Image, Icon, Shape, and Animated cursor types, 113 built-in icons, five geometric shapes, eight animated cursor effects, and the Antigravity and Light Pillar backgrounds. Hover behavior and targeting

Pro's Interactive Hover changes the cursor over links, buttons, and form fields. It can grow, change color, glow, move toward the center of an element, and display a contextual label such as "Open," "Play," or "Type." You can adjust blend modes and use custom CSS selectors for the hover treatment.

Create multiple cursor configurations with separate styles and rules. Apply them to selected pages, CSS selectors, or HTML components. The free plugin uses one cursor configuration across the site.

Cursor styles and animation controls

Pro adds 20 geometric shapes to the five included in the free plugin, for 25 in total. The expanded collection includes shapes such as Heart, Star, Diamond, Blob, Squircle, Sparkle, Pin, and Shield. Circular Text wraps a label around the cursor as a rotating badge. Image and icon hotspot controls let you choose which point follows the mouse.

The Ultimate Cursor changelog lists the image hotspot as a Pro addition in version 2.2.2 and Circular Text in version 2.4.0. Pro also adds options for each animated effect. Depending on the effect, these include emoji, character, color, size, particle count, speed, radius, and force controls, along with additional settings for Click Spark and Click Particles.

Background placement and motion

The free plugin includes Antigravity floating particles and the Light Pillar glowing vertical light. Pro adds motion and rendering controls, including magnet and ring radius, field strength, wave, pulse, and rotation for Antigravity; Light Pillar controls include intensity, glow, noise, mouse interaction, blend mode, and quality.

Pro also lets you set background position, stacking order, and opacity, target backgrounds to selected pages or CSS selectors, and execute multiple background configurations at once. Cursor and background effects can be used together.

Setup and device behavior

Open Ultimate Cursor in the WordPress dashboard, choose a cursor or background effect, adjust its settings in the live preview, configure Pro targeting as needed, and save. Ultimate Cursor works with properly coded WordPress themes and pages built with Gutenberg, Elementor, WPBakery, and Divi.

Scripts load for enabled effects, with each effect kept in a separate file and downloaded when the configuration needs it. Cursor scripts are not downloaded on devices where the cursor is hidden. The custom cursor is hidden on touch devices, while background effects remain responsive across screen sizes. Cursor and hover animations respect reduced-motion preferences, and background effect scripts are not downloaded when a visitor requests reduced motion.
