Cloud storage for WordPress media
The current add-on moves WordPress Media Library files to cloud storage and serves them from there. Supported providers include Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, DigitalOcean Spaces, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, and MinIO. The MinIO option uses a custom endpoint for other S3-compatible services, including OVHcloud Object Storage, Scaleway, Linode, Vultr, and IBM COS.
When files are offloaded, their media URLs are rewritten automatically, including thumbnail sizes and srcset references. Posts, pages, and products can keep using their existing media relationships. Serving files from cloud storage can take delivery work away from the web server; pairing a bucket with a CDN can serve files from locations closer to users.
Uploads, migration, and local copies
After you connect a provider with its credentials and use Save & Test Connection, new uploads can be sent to cloud storage automatically. Existing files remain on the WordPress server until you start a bulk offload from Media Overview or run wp advmo offload with WP-CLI.
Choose a retention policy to decide what happens to local files: Retain Local Files keeps them, Smart Local Cleanup frees space while keeping originals as backup, and Full Cloud Migration removes local copies. Retain Local Files is the default. The browser-based bulk process handles up to 50 files, with a maximum of 150 MB per batch; WP-CLI supports scriptable migrations without that batch limit.
File status and storage controls
- Cloud badges, an offload-status filter, and per-file Offload Now and Retry Offload actions help track media in the WordPress Library.
- A custom path prefix controls where files are stored inside the bucket.
- File versioning includes unique timestamps to media paths to help prevent stale CDN caches.
- Mirror Delete can remove corresponding cloud files when you delete media in WordPress.
The plugin also supports WooCommerce product images, common page builders such as Elementor and Beaver Builder, and picture optimizers including Modern Image Formats, Imagify, and EWWW Image Optimizer. Generated thumbnails and supported WebP and AVIF files are offloaded alongside their originals.
Set up the current plugin
Install and activate Advanced Media Offloader, open Media Offloader in the WordPress administration area, choose a provider, enter its credentials, then choose Save & Test Connection. Most sites can be set up in about five minutes without code. Once connected, new uploads can be offloaded automatically; use Media Overview or WP-CLI when you are ready to move existing files.
