Glossary by Codeat PRO: Control Term Linking

Create glossary entries for recurring terms, product details, or concepts. Glossary by Codeat links matching words in posts and pages to their definitions, so readers can follow a link or view a tooltip while reading. Entries can be grouped into glossary or dictionary sections. The add-on works with the classic WordPress editor and Gutenberg.

Organize entries and select where they appear

The free feature set works with term categories, vertical archives, and shortcodes for lists of terms and categories. Choose which pages, archives, taxonomies, or custom post types use glossary capabilities. Highlight linked terms, display a tooltip on hover, link to internal or external locations, add synonyms, and mark external links with an icon. Four tooltip templates are included.

Glossary Search Bar, Latest Terms, and Glossary Categories widgets help visitors find entries. The plugin also supports CSV imports, Schema.org DefinedTerm, and ChatGPT integration for generating term content, which requires an OpenAI API key. Listed integrations include Yoast SEO, Ninja Forms, Elementor, Bricks Builder, Fixed TOC, Easy Table of Contents, YARPP, User Role Editor, WPML, and Polylang.

PRO controls for display and matching

The PRO edition includes the free capabilities and includes more control over how terms appear and link:

  • Customize tooltip styling and manage tooltip behavior on mobile devices.
  • Generate footnotes for glossary terms.
  • Match case-sensitive terms and choose whether to link only the first occurrence of the same or any key term.
  • Prevent links from appearing on a term's own description page.
  • Add an alphabetical term list and make a customizable glossary index with the PRO shortcode or block.
  • Customize index blocks in Gutenberg, Elementor, Fusion Builder, Divi, Beaver Builder, and SiteOrigin.
  • Add custom fields to key terms, with integration for Advanced Custom Fields.
  • Use advanced shortcodes to parse content in Visual Composer or another page builder.

These tools can fit a recipe site explaining ingredients, a shop describing fishing equipment and related products, or a fan encyclopedia organizing recurring names and concepts. Affiliate sites can add affiliation URLs and descriptions to term tooltips.

Set up the glossary

Create terms and definitions, then configure linking, tooltip presentation, matching behavior, and the content areas where glossary features execute. Place an index with the PRO shortcode or block, and tailor it in a supported visual editor when needed. The PRO edition includes dedicated support; the free edition does not.
