Converter for Media Pro: AVIF and WebP for WordPress Images

Converter for Media Pro is the paid WordPress picture optimization edition. It creates WebP versions of JPEG, PNG, and GIF images, with AVIF available as an additional output format. Converted documents are stored separately, leaving the originals unchanged.

Prepare existing images and new uploads

After installing the add-on, choose the output formats in its settings and enable AVIF if needed. Run one-click optimization for images already in the Media Library. Images added there later are converted automatically. The plugin can also convert images in the /add-ons and /themes directories.

How browser support selects a format

When a browser requests an image, the plugin checks which formats it works with. If AVIF is enabled and supported, it serves the AVIF version. If AVIF is unsupported but WebP is supported, it serves the WebP version. If the browser supports neither format, it loads the original image.

Where converted files are stored

WebP and AVIF files are saved in /wp-content/uploads-webpc/. The plugin leaves original images unchanged and removes the converted files it created if you remove the plugin.

Product information describes AVIF as a successor to WebP and says AVIF images can weigh about 50% less than images converted only to WebP while maintaining better image quality. It also describes WebP and AVIF support across most current browsers; the original-image fallback handles browsers that support neither.
