Conditional Fields Pro: Dynamic Contact Form 7 Workflows

Conditional Fields Pro extends Contact Form 7 for forms where later questions depend on earlier answers. Conditional groups keep relevant fields hidden until their conditions match, which can help organize applications, service requests, questionnaires and registrations.

Groups and visibility

Add a “Conditional fields Group” tag in the form editor and place the controlled fields between its start and end tags. Groups are hidden by default. Create conditions in the “Conditional fields” tab to determine when each group appears. Groups can be nested, and required fields inside hidden groups do not trigger validation errors. Advanced visitors can enter conditions as plain text in Text View instead of using the select boxes.

Pro capabilities for form processes

  • Repeatable fields: Collect multiple entries of the same general type.
  • Multistep forms: Divide a longer form into separate steps.
  • Calculated fields: Derive values from submitted form information.
  • Advanced conditions with JavaScript functions: Configure conditional behavior for more advanced requirements.
  • Multiple file upload: Accommodate multiple uploaded documents in a form process.

Email content and group visibility

Wrap email content in [group-name] ... [/group-name] tags to show it when the matching group is visible. To show content only while that group is hidden, use the inverted form: [!group-name] ... [/!group-name]. Groups can also be nested in email templates, keeping conditional messages aligned with the form path.

Setup, field names and troubleshooting

  1. Install the Conditional Fields components alongside Contact Form 7, then edit the form.
  2. Add a “Conditional fields Group” tag around the fields that should appear conditionally.
  3. Open the “Conditional fields” tab and make conditions for the groups.
  4. Configure the Pro capabilities the form needs, such as repeaters, steps, calculations, JavaScript functions or multiple uploads.
  5. Review the email template and add matching group tags where email content depends on visibility.

Hidden fields are hidden rather than removed, so all fields are submitted with the form. Give every field a unique name, including fields in groups that are never visible at the same time, to avoid incorrect or unexpected values.

If groups stay visible or do not respond, a JavaScript error may be preventing the conditional code from running. The scripts load at the bottom of the page, so an earlier error can interfere. Check the browser’s developer utilities; gradually disabling plugins and changing the theme can help locate a conflict.
