Category Editor Pro for WordPress Archive Pages
Category Editor Pro replaces the standard category description field in the WordPress admin with a TinyMCE-enabled editor. Add formatting, HTML, shortcodes, and media to descriptions shown above post or product lists. Content appears where the active theme outputs the relevant category, tag, or term description.
Format archive descriptions
Category Editor Pro replaces the standard category description field in the WordPress admin with a TinyMCE-enabled editor. Add formatting, HTML, shortcodes, and media to descriptions shown above post or product lists. Content appears where the active theme outputs the relevant category, tag, or term description.
The add-on is designed for themes written to WordPress standards, and the supplied listing describes compatibility with WooCommerce and other ecommerce add-ons. Archive introductions can help explain a blog topic or product category before visitors view its listings.
Add content below listings
The Pro version includes a second description area beneath blog posts or products. Use it for supporting information you want visitors to reach after the list, while keeping the introduction above it.
Use archive pictures and graphical menus
Assign images to categories and use the graphical menu shortcode [catimmg] to display linked category entries. The shortcode can show all available categories, limit the number displayed, or choose categories by comma-separated IDs. In Pro, the graphical menu also works with tags. The menu can be styled with the supplied CSS selectors: .catimgmain, .catimmgeach, and .cattitle.
The plugin includes an og:image option for WordPress categories and WooCommerce product categories. Pro adds this option for WordPress tags and WooCommerce product tag archives.
Setup and compatibility
Install and activate the plugin, then edit the relevant category, tag, or term. For a graphical menu, select or upload an image, copy its file URL, and paste it into the category image field. Add the shortcode where you want the menu to appear. The active theme must call the relevant archive description for its content to display.
The supplied plugin listing says it had not been tested with the latest three major WordPress releases and warns that it may no longer be maintained or supported, so compatibility with recent versions may be an issue. The listing also states that the replacement description field saves to the same database section as the default field and adds no database tables or fields.
The supplied product information lists quick support Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. UK time for the paid version.
