Choose what a shortcode displays
The main [wpdts] shortcode defaults to the date and time formats set in WordPress. Other shortcode forms provide the default date or time format, a custom format using PHP date and time characters, or individual values such as the year, month, day, hour, minute, second, Unix timestamp, day or week of the year, and number of days in a month or year. Month and weekday values can appear as numbers, full names, or abbreviations.
Set a starting value and format the result
Shortcodes can use the current WordPress date and time, a fixed or relative starting date, or a post or page creation or modification time, including GMT variants. The next attribute can choose the next upcoming weekday, day of the month, or last day of the current month. Other attributes can adjust years, months, days, hours, minutes, or seconds before display, and add leading zeros to month, day, hour, minute, or second values.
Pro options described
- Cached pages: JavaScript output is listed as an option for updating shortcode results on cached pages.
- Visit and event dates: Listed starting values include a user's first or last visit, when stored as a cookie, session, or user option where possible, plus Catholic and Orthodox Easter, Passover, Hanukkah, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year.
- Visitor time zones: A browser or IP-based parameter can modify the result for a visitor's time zone. IP-based detection may be inaccurate.
- Presentation and counters: The style option can set font face, color, and size. The counter option can update displayed values as a ticking text clock.
- Shortcode Wizard: A step-by-step interface is listed for creating configured shortcodes.
Place shortcodes in WordPress content
Add a shortcode to a post or page and set the attributes for the value, date, format, adjustment, or display behavior you need. Shortcodes in titles, navigation menus, footers, and widgets may require extra code or a add-on if the active theme does not process them in those areas.
