How roles determine what visitors can do
User Role Editor Pro adds detailed controls for WordPress roles and capabilities. Create a role from scratch or copy an existing one, then use checkboxes to adjust its capabilities. You can assign multiple roles to a user and set capabilities for individual users.
Choose the default role for new users, add capabilities, or remove capabilities left by uninstalled plugins. A custom role can be deleted only when no users are assigned to it.
How role options affect menus and dashboard components
For the administration area, block selected menu items, widgets under Appearance, or meta boxes in the dashboard, posts, pages, and custom post types for a role. The administration page permissions viewer shows which pages a role can access.
On the front end, conceal selected menu items from visitors, logged-in users, or specific roles. You can also display widgets to selected roles.
How content and plugin rules set access
Manage who can edit posts, pages, and custom post types using lists of post, author, or taxonomy IDs. You can also restrict which roles may view selected posts and pages.
Control extension activation and deactivation operations by user. For Gravity Forms, manage access to each form. A shortcode can show enclosed content only to users with selected roles.
How multisite tools carry permissions across a network
In multisite, roles and user permissions can be managed through Network Admin, and one-click synchronization can apply changes across the network. The Export/Import module saves a role to a local file so you can import it to another WordPress website or another site in the network. Using the plugin in a multisite environment requires superadmin privileges.
The Other roles access module controls which other roles a user with the current role can see in WordPress, including role dropdowns used when assigning a role while editing a user profile.
Install and configure the Pro edition
Install and activate User Role Editor Pro in WordPress, then open its role-management settings. Select or make a role, review its capabilities, configure the needed Pro access controls, and save. Review the resulting permissions before assigning the role to users. On multisite installations, use Network Admin and its network controls for permissions across sites.
User Role Editor Pro has an advertisement-free interface and includes premium support.
