Configure a WordPress website as a Progressive Web App

SuperPWA Premium generates a web app manifest and adds it to your website. On supported mobile browsers, users can install the website using an “Add To Home Screen” prompt or the browser menu, then reopen it from their device home screen through an app-like interface.

Set the app's appearance

In the plugin settings, choose the application icon, set the splash screen background color, and select the show property. SuperPWA also works with maskable and monochrome icons, along with WordPress installations in a sub-folder.

What visitors can read offline

Pages visitors have opened can be stored on their devices using the CacheStorage API and read offline. If a user requests a page that is not cached while offline, the configured offline page appears.

Requirements and setup

The website must use HTTPS, and the browser must support web app manifests and service workers. Install and activate the add-on from the WordPress admin area, then open the SuperPWA settings. Set the application icon and splash screen color, choose the display property, select an offline page, and save. Visit the site from a supported mobile device to install it from the prompt or browser menu. Previously visited, cached pages can then be opened offline.

Manual installation is also available by uploading the super-progressive-web-apps folder to /wp-content/extensions/ and activating the plugin from WordPress Admin > Plugins. On uninstall, the plugin removes the database entries and documents it creates.
