Reader Plans: Add Subscription Paywalls to WordPress Articles
Reader Plans lets WordPress creators offer subscription or membership access to selected articles. Add a codoc block where the free preview should end: content above it remains visible to users, and content below it is hidden from non-buyers. The block displays the purchase interface, which handles buyer authentication.

Payment and buyer access
Stripe processes payments. Listed payment options include credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Konbini. Transactions can be processed in JPY, USD, or EUR. Readers worldwide can purchase with a valid credit card.
To preview an article as a buyer, choose “Sign in to restore purchase” and authenticate with a codoc account. Log out to view it as a non-buyer. Per-article options control pricing and whether Reader Plans are available. Creators can also offer one-time article purchases and tipping alongside Reader Plans.
Publishing and account management
Revenue and customer information are managed through codoc.jp. Article content is stored on both WordPress and codoc. When a WordPress article is published, it is published on codoc; an unpublished WordPress article remains unpublished there. Deleting the WordPress article makes its codoc content unpublished. WordPress featured pictures can also be used on codoc.
Editor and display controls
Use the codoc block in Gutenberg or the codoc toolbar button in the Classic Editor with TinyMCE. Custom HTML can be inserted before or after codoc tags, and a custom CSS file can be specified in Settings under codoc. Permalinks are retrieved through get_permalink(); replacement options are available for reverse proxies or special routing.
Set up Reader Plans in a post
Install and activate codoc, then connect it using the codoc setup process. Open a WordPress post in Gutenberg or the Classic Editor and add the codoc block, or use the Classic Editor button. Place the content to protect below the block, configure the article price or Reader Plan availability, and publish the post. Manage revenue and customer information through codoc.jp.
