Defender Pro: WordPress Security and Malware Scanning

Defender Pro brings WordPress file checks, traffic filtering, login controls, and activity monitoring together. Scans flag documents that changed unexpectedly, suspicious code, known vulnerabilities, outdated extensions, and add-ons removed from the WordPress repository. The firewall and login tools handle access controls, while reports and audit logs help track website condition and changes.

Scanning and filtering traffic

The AntiBot Global Firewall uses threat data from more than 750,000 websites. Its blocklist updates every 12 hours and can block harmful traffic and spam bots. Basic Mode offers balanced filtering; Strict Mode applies tighter filtering to suspicious activity.

In The Hub, manage IP rules and AntiBot settings across connected websites. Controls include manual IP blocks, imported blocklists, allowlists, timed or permanent lockouts, geographic restrictions, and user-agent blocking.

Login security and hardening

Defender includes two-factor authentication, login limits, strong password rules, and checks for compromised passwords before they are used. It can also conceal the login URL and help protect sessions from hijacking.

One-click hardening recommendations include disabling the file editor, updating security keys, hiding front-end PHP errors, adding security headers, and disabling trackbacks and pingbacks. IP banning, IP lockouts, and 404 detection help identify and block unwanted activity.

Monitoring and website management

Schedule recurring scans for malicious code, suspicious injections, vulnerabilities, abandoned extensions, and missing hardening recommendations. Automated security reports and immediate threat summaries can be sent to your inbox. Audit logs record logins, user changes, plugin and theme updates, content edits, and settings changes.

Defender works with WordPress Multisite and can be enabled and managed from the network admin. Defender Pro includes access to 24/7 live support; WPMU DEV support can also advise on cleaning up a hacked site.

Setup and extension compatibility

Install and activate Defender Pro, open its settings, review the recommended protections, then enable the firewall, AntiBot, login, scanning, reporting, and hardening settings you need. If another security plugin is active, avoid enabling the same firewall, malware scanner, or login security functions in both, since overlapping controls can cause conflicts.
