Order formats and Pro controls

Custom Order Numbers for WooCommerce Pro lets shop owners configure how custom order numbers are formatted and managed. Pro adds advanced templates, custom suffixes, configurable number width, conditional prefixes and suffixes, and manual order number counters.

Choose a format and numbering method

Use a template to define the order number structure. Add custom text or the order date as a prefix, add suffixes, and apply prefixes or suffixes conditionally, including by user role. Configure the number width to fit your preferred format.

Choose sequential numbering, WooCommerce order IDs, or pseudorandom numbers based on a CRC32 hash. For a sequence, set a starting number and select an automatic daily, monthly, or yearly reset if needed. Pro manual counters provide another way to control numbering.

Apply the format to orders

In the plugin settings, choose the numbering method and configure the template, counters, width, prefixes, suffixes, and conditions. To assign custom numbers to existing orders, use the Renumerate Orders tool.

You can search for custom order numbers in the WooCommerce admin dashboard. Customers can track orders on the standard WooCommerce Order Tracking page by entering the custom order number and billing email address.

Invoices and integrations

Compatible invoice plugins can display custom order numbers on invoices and related files. Examples include WooCommerce PDF Invoices, Packing Slips, Delivery Notes & Shipping Labels; Print Invoice & Delivery Notes for WooCommerce; Invoices for WooCommerce; WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips; Booster for WooCommerce; and Challan.

The custom number is a reference for the order; the underlying WooCommerce order ID remains unchanged. If a third-party integration reads that ID directly, its developer may need to fetch the custom order number with $order->get_order_number().
